Socialism is not the opposite of Capitalism. People can own capital in Socialist, and even Communist countries, as you point out, yourself.

The solution is to stop being so dogmatic about Capitalism. Have your capitalism with your socialism. You want to give up your Social Security or your local fire department? Those are funded by programs that do social good funded by your government. Are you a pure capitalist who wants to do away with those things? Should hospitals check your ability to pay before treating you? Of course not. So you see, the US is Socialist, too.
