Gosh, sorry Dave. But you are mixing up the “free market” with “Capitalism”. There is a difference and when you conflate the two, you miss the point.
Nobody has a problem with the free market. Russia and China have both embraced it. They have even embraced Capitalism. So, again, I think you have missed the point.
The point is around the way resources are allocated. If you believe that the owners of capital should have maximum control over the distribution of resources and the government then the US is doing right by you.
However. If you feel, as many do, that society would benefit from fairer resource distribution, then you want to look at adopting some socialist programs like Medicare and Social Security. Even most Libertarians agree that we need a military and someone to build roads, which might not operate well in a purely capitalist society, but do fine in a free market.
